This mindset sets apart the difference between good product leaders and great product leaders. Good product leaders can ship features and ‘new, shiny’ releases, but great product leaders think about the whole end to end product experience for its end users. This is beyond building and shipping the product – including how we sell it, market it, and how customers adopt and eventually renew.

In each software category, there are many choices available to businesses and customers. How do you differentiate? This comes down to whole product thinking. It’s not enough to have a unique product and feature advantages, product leaders need to focus on the end to end customer journey – to better understand how to sell, market and customer adoption. Since product leaders don't often "own" all these processes, it also requires a tremendous amount of collaboration across teams and leaders.
